Why Application Assistance?
At Huron, our team of qualified case managers provide a plethora of services pertaining to application assistance for individuals who are disabled, severely injured or when a serious medical condition stops them from working. There are various community resources and government aids available for such individuals that can help cover healthcare and living expenses.
The two main Social Security programs that support people living with disabilities are Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Nevertheless, health insurance is a necessity for anyone living in the United States due to the high costs of healthcare.
Social Security Disability Insurance pays benefits to you and certain members of your family if you are "insured," meaning that you worked long enough and paid Social Security taxes.
Supplemental Security Income pays benefits based on financial need.
Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income provide critical lifelines for roughly 12 million people with disabilities. The financial assistance that Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security provide is vital as it helps individuals with severe disabilities and health conditions to live independently, keep a roof over their heads and food on the table, and pay for needed, often life-sustaining medications and other basic expenses.
While these two programs are different in many ways, both are administered by the Social Security Administration and only individuals who have a disability and meet medical criteria may qualify for benefits under either program. It is advisable to apply for both SSDI and SSI as soon as one becomes disabled. They may be eligible for one and not the other.
What We Do?
Case Management is a collaborative process of assessment, planning, facilitation, care coordination, evaluation and advocacy for options and services to meet an individual’s and family’s comprehensive health needs through communication and available resources to promote patient safety, quality of care and cost-effective outcomes.
